On December 8, 2018, First Baptist Church of Buna
will celebrate one hundred years as a congregation.
Since 1956, the congregation has gathered at the present location. The original building was moved here at that time from several blocks away and remains in use today by our Student Ministry. Our present Sanctuary was dedicated in May of 2001 and is located in a building which includes our Nursery/Pre-K ministries, our Church Library, classrooms, and the Welcome Center.
For over 20 years at the present location, the congregation was brought along under Pastor B.A. Carlin. Throughout the 60’s, 70’s, and early 80’s, his faithful presence and sound leadership promoted togetherness, fostered an abiding respect for the office of pastor, and cultivated involvement in missions.
Three pastors who followed Dr. Carlin have moved on to hold positions that keep them connected to us through their work within Southern Baptist leadership and missions:
Jerry Redkey retired after serving as Director of Missions for our Sabine-Neches Baptist Area;
Byron McWilliams, pastor of First Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas, served as President of the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention and currently serves as a trustee of the International Mission Board of our Southern Baptist Convention;
Jeff Lowe and his wife, Robyn, serve as International Mission Board missionaries in Lukulu , Zambia.
Our congregation continues upon this firm foundation with a spirit of unity, a high view of Scripture, and a growing involvement in reaching the generations and the nations with the message of God’s Word.
First Baptist Church of Buna is a supporting church
of the Southern Baptist Convention through
the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention.
